Benedictine Spirituality 5

The first step of humility is unhesitating obedience, 2which comes naturally to those who cherish Christ above all. It is love that impels them to pursue everlasting life; therefore, they are eager to take the narrow road of which the Lord says: Narrow is the road that leads to life (Matt 7:14). They no longer live by their own judgment, giving in to their whims and appetites; rather they walk according to another’s decisions and directions, choosing to live in monasteries and to have an abbot over them.

Day 5 Making Himself Low —-March 2

Day 5For this reason he had to be made like them,[e] fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

—Hebrews 2: 17-18

Question—Can you imagine what it was like for God to become a Man?

Prayer Lord, you became like me so that I might be with you. Likewise, I must be willing to suffer to bring others to you. Give me the courage to be selfless enough to sacrifice to serve you. Give me the insight to make myself low. Amen
