In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being.
Question- Do I trust that God has always been with me?
Prayer- LORD, your scripture says that your love for me has always been in your plans. Let that assurance lead me to live a life that honors you. Amen
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Question – Have I looked to the divine shepherd today?
Prayer – LORD, we are so accustomed to counting on ourselves that we often forget that we have a shepherd to guide us in difficult times. Enlighten me to see that you are there when I feel so alone. You are there when the world has abandoned me. You are the divine shepherd who guides me through troubled waters. Amen.
Day 19 March 18
Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not make room for the devil. Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labour and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy. 29Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear.
Question- Do I take the time to really work on my anger?
Prayer- LORD, your peace surpasses all my understanding. When anger rises within me, please calm my mind and soothe my heart with your gentle words. Fill my whole life with your perfect peace. May my personality be shaped by your peace rather than my frustration. Amen
“I lifted the burden
from your shoulder
and took the heavy basket
from your hands.
When you were in trouble,
I rescued you,
and from the thunderclouds,
I answered your prayers.
Question – When did God lift a burden from you?
Prayer- LORD, you are a burden lifting God.
I know that you are with me when I am weak:
you are with me when my needs are great:
you are with me when all others abandon me.
Let me live with the knowledge of your faithfulness. Amen
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do…
Question – What does it mean to be in Christ Jesus?
Prayer – LORD, let me discover the meaning of being in you. This world throws out so many definitions of what it means to be a Christian, that it causes confusion. Let me fully accept you and allow you live in me. Amen
Sing joyful songs to the Lord!
Praise the mighty rock
where we are safe.
Come to worship him
with thankful hearts
and songs of praise.
The Lord is the greatest God,
king over all other gods.
He holds the deepest part
of the earth in his hands,
and the mountain peaks
belong to him.
Question– How will I sing a joyful song to the Lord today?
Prayer – LORD, I long for the safety that you offer to me. There are times when the world is so threatening that I feel quite alone. In those times I look to you to be my rock. Let me never forget that you are always there for me. Amen.
If you want to do right
and to obey my teaching
with all your heart,
then pay close attention.
Don’t be discouraged
when others insult you
and say hurtful things.
—- Isaiah 51:7-8
Question – Have I let the criticism of others take me away from the work of God?
Prayer – Lord, lift the weight of discouragement from my shoulders and give me the encouragement that comes with my closeness to you. Such a closeness is forged by following your word and paying heed to your spirit that dwells with me. Help me this day to have a keen awareness of you in me. Amen
All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. But God treats us much better than we deserve, and because of Christ Jesus, he freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins. God sent Christ to be our sacrifice. Christ offered his life’s blood, so that by faith in him we could come to God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.
Question – What can we learn from the way God accepts us?
Prayer – Lord, we are sinners saved by your grace. Your Grace is not dependent on our behavior but rests in your love for us. Help me to discover how to show forth that type of love to those around me. Let that be an avenue of Lenten preparation as I wait for you. Amen
I look to the hills!
Where will I find help?
It will come from the Lord,
who created the heavens
and the earth.
The Lord is your protector,
and he won’t go to sleep
or let you stumble.
The protector of Israel
or ever get drowsy.
Question – Do I look to God for my protection?
Prayer- Lord, we all need protection from the dangers that surround us. We need protection from ourselves and our propensity to stray. You are our protector even when our senses go to sleep. You watch and protect us when we push you off. You are such a loving and ever-present God. Amen
Let me ask you this. What would you do if you had a hundred sheep and one of them wandered off? Wouldn’t you leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go look for the one that had wandered away? I am sure that finding it would make you happier than having the ninety-nine that never wandered off. That’s how it is with your Father in heaven. He doesn’t want any of these little ones to be lost.
Question- Would you that much for one person?
Prayer–Lord, you see the value of me, just me. Help me to value others in such a way that I can value myself. You have given me so much love when you chose to sacrifice yourself for me. Allow me in my path to give your love to others. Amen
